Annual Bird Report
Since 1993, HBOC has produced an Annual Report of the Birds of the Hunter Region. For the purposes of HBOC’s study, the Hunter Region is defined as the area managed by the local government authorities of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Cessnock, Muswellbrook, Singleton, Dungog, Gloucester, Port Stephens, Greater Taree, Great Lakes and those areas formerly managed by the Shire Councils of Scone, Merriwa and Murrurundi (as defined in the Hunter Regional Environmental Plan 1989). It also includes the Pacific Ocean to the east of that area, within 100km of the coastline.
Reports typically are published in October of the following year, and are based on records from 80-100+ individuals and organisations. All records are vetted by an Appraisals Committee of experts from HBOC prior to publication.
Information in the publication will be of interest to:
- Local authorities seeking to prepare State of the Environment reports
- Consultants seeking information concerning rare, threatened or endangered species in the Hunter Region, or any other species of interest
- Researchers in ornithology, natural history, environmental studies
- Individuals or organisations with an interest in Australian birds
Hard copies of most of the Bird Reports are available at $15 per copy and can be ordered by sending a cheque or postal order to The Secretary, Hunter Bird Observers Club, PO Box 24, New Lambton NSW 2305. Alternatively, electronic copies (as Acrobat files) are available at $10 per copy.
